Since leaving London 10 years ago, my opera-going has diminished and chances to see Wagner's opera are rare.
However, I've recently rediscovered Wagner in the recorded medium. After acquiring the most common Ring Cycles on vinyl in the last couple of years, I've started on the DVDs.
I'm currently watching the Bayreuth/Kupfer/Barenboim 1992 set. Surprisingly, it looked familiar, then I recalled seeing in on the big screen at the South Bank Centre, in what must have been an early live-relay, or perhaps recorded a little earlier.
Anyway, these videos are not a patch on being there, but still an engrossing way of spending some evening time.
Any thoughts on DVDs?
